BEIJING, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) will stage the tragicomic play "The Visit" by Swiss dramatist Friedrich Durrenmatt from April 18 to 21.
The Beijing People's Art Theater will present the classic work about a story of revenge, where Claire, a wealthy woman who returns to her hometown, offers to provide the townspeople with a huge amount of money they need in exchange for killing her previous lover who jilted her years ago.
The mayor first refuses the deal but the townspeople eventually agree.
The Beijing People's Art Theater first staged the play, directed by famous actor and director Lan Tianye, in China in 1982.
Lan believes that despite the play's bizarre plot, audiences may find some elements of reality in it.
